This is the first 4th of July that I’ve had the opportunity to do this. I want to give my thanks to two of my ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War and secured our country’s independence.

1. John Culver of Morris County, New Jersey served in the Continental Army under Washington’s command. He named his own son “George Washington Culver” in honor of his commanding officer, breaking at 6 generations- strong tradition of naming his firstborn son “John.”
2. Colonel Frederick Hambright of North/ South Carolina. Born “Hambrecht” in Bavaria, he served with distinction for the independence of his adopted country, earning the nickname “The Terror of The Tories.” He was instrumental in the victory at the Battle of King’s Mountain in 1780.

I’m terribly proud to have DNA from both of them, and I wish I could’ve met them in person
