Andrew Kim may be a figment of my own imagination, but Preservation Architects do exist. Listen along as an architect describes his path towards a career in prserving and restoring the past.
How do you become a preservation architect? Without calling in the sponsered ads, I'll give you a quick tour of programs available here in Texas:
The University of Houston offers a Masters of Science in Architecture with a concentration in Historic Preservation. Actually, I didn't know that until today that U of H had that program. That's a character or story idea right there. Preservation Architect in City Known for Knocking Down Everything That's Not Nailed Down.
The University of Texas has a much older and better known program, and I had debated over whether to have most of my experts in Restoring Madison come from Austin since it's still seen as a center for academic preservation programs. But no, Andrew's proudly from Dallas. UT even has a PhD program in perservation.
Little brother, Texas A&M has their own Center for Heritage Conservation. It's attatched to their College of Engineering. A&M provided us with a wildlife expert in Taking Flight, and I've done my best to spread my epxperts around as the series progressed.
Meet the preservation experts here.
