Cool things that authors get to do- create your own bookstore Worldbuilding

Worldbuilding is one of the most time consuming but fun things that I get to do when creating books. Before I switched to contemporary fiction, I wrote historical fiction and a lot of the settings were already sketched out for me.

These days, I'm just going buck wild coming up with settings to give Madison flavor. As a writer, of course, I have to have a bookstore in town. I've had lots of places to draw inspiration from. Having lived in Austin for four years, I have a great example of how...

Meet Jake   Jake left Madison to prove himself in Dallas construction.

Jake left Madison to prove himself in Dallas construction. He's only back to renovate the old community center... definitely not to win back the girl who shattered his eighteen-year-old heart. But when a buttercream frosting disaster literally throws them together, the sparks fly hotter than a Texas summer.

Jake's the hero of Save the Date: Saving Madison, TX Book 1. Get Jake and Maya's story on Amazon, preorder before July 7th or borrow in KU,

Maya Rodriguez fled Madison, Texas for the bright lights of Houston—only to have her wedding planning empire crumble in spectacular fashion. Now she's back home, coordinating quinceañeras at the community center and pretending her heart doesn't skip when contractor Jake Sullivan walks by.

Maya's trying her best to put her past scandals and humiliations behind her while trying to build a new life for herself in Madison, Texas. But the internet never forgets, neither do gossips of any size...

I don't think that I realized how contentious the words "drawl" and "twang" were when it came to Texas accents until I started writing about them. In my experience, "drawl" referred to Southern accents as a whole, while Texas got its own category as a "Texas Twang."

After George Strait released his album, Twang, I felt justified with the alteration of using "Texas twang." After all, if it's good enough for King George, it's good enough for me.

I'll probably address this in an author's note...

African Americans, Texas history and trying to do the right thing This is

This is somewhat related to my series set in Madison, TX. One of the things I wanted to focus on in my contemporary romances was the complicated history Texas has with its history. This morning, I noticed this on my newsletter feed.

Save as much as you can. Pull up everybody. We need all of us to succeed in order to succeed. Try to rectify the wrongs you've done in the past the best you can. Admit when you were wrong and try to do better.

I'm very proud to say that even with all of the hoops and setbacks, the Saving Madison Series will be available this July 7th on Amazon.

The entire series, Books 1-8, will be available on Kindle Unlimited through the end of 2025. If you're a KU subscriber, you can borrow and binge to your heart's content.

Up next, this September, my second series will be available. Keep watching for updates on covers and titles.
